President Bola Tinubu has congratulated singer Tems on winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Born Temilade Openiyi, Theliberationnews reported that Tems secured the Grammy in the Best African Music Performance category with her hit song ‘Love Me Jeje,’ ahead of Wizkid, BurnaBoy, Davido, Lojay, Yemi Alade and Asake.
The triumph marked her second win after previously earning a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s chart-topping single ‘Wait For U.’
In his X (formerly Twitter) post on Monday, President Tinubu said he was proud of the 29-year-old Tems and other Nigerians nominated for the awards.
“Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje,’” the president wrote.
“I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!”
The Best African Music Performance category, introduced only last year, was previously won by South African star Tyla for her hit single ‘Water.’
