The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State chapter has announced plans to hold a ‘Youth and Governance symposium’ to further bridge the gap between the teeming youth population and the government.

The symposium is expected to serve as a potent platform to drive discussions on socio-political issues by bringing youth and government officials together.

The chairman of the youth body, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim explained that the event will focus on encouraging youths’ active participation in governance and ensuring voters’ education ahead of the local government elections in the state.

His words: “The idea to organise such event was borne out of our conviction that youths have a critical role to play in shaping the future of our state and country. By engaging them in discussions on governance, we are fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness that will ultimately lead to informed decision-making during elections.”

He further emphasized the importance of educating young voters, especially as the local government elections approach.

According to him, active participation in the political process will empower the youth to take charge of their future and ensure that their voices are heard in the decision-making process.

The symposium will feature key government officials, political analysts, and youth leaders who will share their insights on the role of youth in governance, the importance of voting, and how young people can influence policy decisions.

Also, there will be an interactive sessions where participants can ask questions and engage with speakers.

Engr. Adigun Ibrahim expressed optimism that the event will not only enlighten the youth but also motivate them to take proactive steps towards becoming active and responsible citizens.
