For the first time in its history, the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMACOS) at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic has elected its leadership through a democratic process, rather than by appointment. Comrade Sulaimon Akanbi emerged as the President-elect, along with his executive team, in the recent election.

The newly elected leaders commended the school management for ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election, giving students the opportunity to elect their representatives following years of appointment-based leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Sulaimon Akanbi expressed excitement over this historic moment.

“Today, history has been made. This is a remarkable moment not just for the Department of Mass Communication but for D.S. Adegbenro Polytechnic as a whole. I am committed to fulfilling my campaign promises and to prioritizing the needs and aspirations of my fellow students,” he stated.

He also emphasized unity among students, stressing that the election was about collective progress, not division.

“Everyone who participated in this race is a winner. Though only one person can emerge victorious, I urge all candidates to unite with us in building a better AMACOS.”

Mr. Buhari Moshood, the students’ adviser for the department, congratulated the newly elected executives and encouraged them to be magnanimous in victory.

“On behalf of the Head of Department and other lecturers, I congratulate you all on your emergence as winners of this historic election. This is the first of its kind in our department, and I urge you to uphold the values of Omoluabi (integrity and good character) in all your dealings,” he said.

He urged the new leadership to prioritize students’ welfare, emphasizing that trust and confidence are built through responsible and effective leadership.
