The Lagos Police Command has arrested a private school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, for allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old pupil, Michael Abayomi, during the school hours in Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.

Nwadigo was seen, in a viral video, repeatedly slapping and shouting at the terrified pupil as he struggled to write the numeral “6” during a lesson.

The footage has since elicited widespread public outrage, unwanted attention to the school and prompting demands for justice and better measure for child protection.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) via a statement on it X account confirmed that Nwadigo has been arrested with the Owutu Family Support Unit (FSU) adding that a full investigation is underway.

The agency emphasized, “We appreciate everyone who brought this disturbing incident to our attention. We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced in earnest. Schools should be safe, nurturing environments for all children in their care.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to protecting children by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and promoting a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form.”
