Nigeria’s Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke ‘Davido’ has advised black Americans against relocating to Nigeria over the country’s current economic woes.
Davido’s advice is coming on the heels of speculations that some black Americans are considering leaving the United States following Donald Trump’s recent electoral victory, due to trepidation of potential policies that may not favor them.
Speaking during an appearance on The Big Homies House podcast, the globally musical star discussed the deep-rooted challenges facing Nigeria. “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles,” he noted.
Davido highlighted critical issues such as ineffective leadership, a weakening exchange rate, and soaring oil prices that have compounded Nigeria’s economic struggles.
“It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts,” he explained.
He continued, “I am talking about the situation in the country. Now the exchange rate is messed up, a lot of stuffs are not going well. The economy is just not good enough. The oil price is too high. Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil.”
He, however, acknowledged the major contributions of Africa’s entertainment industry in reshaping the continent’s global reputation.
“Regardless, entertainment is one of the things that has made Africa look good. We do not have the best leader, that is a fact,” he added.
