The grisly murder of a 500-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, Modupe Ayandare has left many students devastated with many calling for quick investigation into the cause her death and bringing the culprits to book.
Theliberationnews gathered that late Ayandare better known on campus as Comrade Modesty was murdered in a suicide-like manner while returning from vigil around 4 am on Monday.
Until her death, she was the president of the Agronomy Department of the institution.
In a video posted by @Yemiefash on X (formerly Twitter) the deceased, in her church dress, was seen on her knees with rope tied across her neck affixed to the window of an uncompleted building.
Commenting on the 8-second video, a Tweep @osindorofisayo2 posted, “Akungba yii shaa.
They need to investigate this cos Omohhh.”
“I was going to be her successor……it’s so painful and disheartening…. comrade modupe will never commit suicide…..the perpetrator must be brought to book #justiceformdoesty,” another tweep, @amokeaji wrote.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police, via a comment on the post, confirmed that investigation has commenced on the unfortunate incident.
“The case has been reported at AKUNGBA Division and the command is working on it. Thanks,” the Command wrote.
NANS JCC Ondo Axis Reacts, Assures Of Justice For The Deceased
The National Association of Nigerian Students Joints Campus Council (NANS JCC), Ondo Axis, has mourned the passage of the deceased describing her as a bright, young leader illustrious students of the university.
In the statement jointly signed by its chairman, Comrade Oluwarotini Tobiloba Joshua, the General Secretary; Comrade Oluwanishola Ajibola and the Public Relations Officer; Comrade Kehinde Blessing, the student body pledged full support to ensure that Justice prevails.
“It is with heavy hearts that the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council(NANS JCC) Ondo Axis, express our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of our dear Comrade Ayandare Modesty who happens to be the president of the Agronomy Department, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba.
“Comrade Modesty was a bright, young leader and dedicated student of Adekunle Ajasin University The tragic news of her death has left a void in our hearts and our community. We join the AAUA Students’ Union in condemning this act and pledging our full support for justice.
“In the wake of this tragic incident, we must maintain a spirit of unity and cooperation to ensure that Modupe’s passing is treated with the utmost respect and dignity. To that end, we encourage all students to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of her death and to respect the privacy of her loved ones.
“We call on all students and members of the Adekunle Ajasin University community to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Comrade Modesty during this difficult time.
“Furthermore, we urge you to reach out to your fellow students in this time of grief and offer whatever support you can. We must stand together as a community and remember Modupe’s life with honor and compassion.
