Theophilus Philemon, 19, has been ordered by a Magistrate court in Kubwa, Abuja to sweep the court premises for six months for stealing armoured cables worth N5.6 million.
Magistrate Nneaka Lesly om Tuesday convicted Philemon and sentenced for criminal trespass and theft.
The magistrate also ordered Philemon to pay compensation after the prosecution counsel, John Okpa has ascertained the cost of the stolen item.
Lesly further said the compensation should be paid before June 30.
“If you fail to pay the compensation, you will go to jail,” she held.
She however warned him to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, Okpa told the court that the complainant, Akinpelu Yinka reported the matter at Dutse Alhaji Police Station on April 16.
Okpa said Philemon trespassed onto a transformer located in Kubwa and stole armoured cables worth N5.6 million.
He said during police investigations, some of the cables were recovered from him.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
