Manchester City midfielder, Phil Foden, has scooped the Premier League Player of the Season award after fending off competitions from his club teammate Erling Harland, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer of Chelsea and four others.

The England international has been been in a superb form for City this season, scoring a career-best of 17 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season as Pep Guardiola’s side push to secure a historic fourth consecutive league title in the final matchday of the campaign on Sunday.

Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak are the other nominees in the eight-man shortlist for the season’s best player award.

Foden won the award after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

Speaking to Man City’s official website on winning the award, Foden said, “To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of.”

“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs,” he said.

“Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season,” Foden added.

“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my team-mates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”

It is the fifth consecutive campaign a Man City player has been voted as the Premier League Player of the Season — Haaland won it last season, while De Bruyne claimed it in 2019/20 and 2021/22, with Ruben Dias winning it in 2020/21.
