In recognition of his ingenuity and sustained efforts against crime and criminality, the leading contender for the chairmanship seat of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim has been honored with an accolade by African Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP).

At its 12th National Youth Summit on Crime prevention 2024 held on Thursday at Tayo Aderinokun Hall, University of Lagos, Adigun was honored alongside other prominent individuals such as the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara, Borno State Governor and his counterpart from Abia State, Babagana Zulum and Alex Otti, respectively.

Others include the Honorable minister of interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the council chairmen of of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA and Kosofe LGA, Hon. Rasaq Ajala and Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, respectively among others.

The youth leader who was also one of the guest speakers at the event shared practicable insights on the topic: “Empowering youth: Building Safe And Inclusive communities” calling for continued action against insecurity from all and sundry to sustainably build a safe and inclusive communities.

The incumbent cordinator of NYCN Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye local branch referenced his hands-on approach to complementing governmental efforts in dealing with the menace and bringing crime to the barest minimum in the community and Lagos state at large such as the periodic breakfast sessions on prevailing social vice in the community, entrepreneurial support for indigent members of the community, human-capacity development programs, workshop for professionals as well partnership with security agencies in the community and beyond.

“I’m of the school of thought that believes that security is everyone’s responsibility, it’s one of the pillar upon which any community or given society thrives on. When young people are empowered, they are encouraged to engage in shaping policies and programs that affect their lives and communities. This involvement ensures that our unique perspectives and needs are considered, leading to more responsive and effective community solutions.

“Empowering youths, through constant engagement, human-capital development programs, among others contribute innovative ideas and energy help address local challenges and promote inclusivity. This is our secret and how we’ve been able to bring criminality to the barest minimum in our community,” Adigun remarked.

While appreciating the organiser for the award, Adigun assured the efforts will be sustained and intensified when he becomes the state chairman of the youth body hinting that the aim is to complement the state government THEMES+ agenda and Smartcity plan.

“I’ll like to appreciate the founder of AYICRIP, Amb. Chris Ibe for this wonderful gong, it’s one that gladdens my heart because it’s testament to our immense efforts on security. You can be assured that this recognition will be take as yet another challenge for us to intensify our efforts. We won’t relent,” Adigun concluded.
