An undergraduate of the prestigious Lagos State University (LASU), Itunuoluwa Soniregun has shattered the glass ceiling by emerging as the first female and youngest speaker of Lagos State Youth Parliament.

Soniregun, a 200-level student of philosophy of the institution, was unanimously voted the speaker of the 5th assembly during the inauguration ceremony held recently in the Lagos State House of Assembly complex.

The epochal event was graced by notable individuals across the state.

She earned the unanimous vote of the other 39 members of the parliament to emerge the winner of the coveted seat.

Just like Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Soniregun represents Agege Constituency 1 in the youth legislative body.

Soniregun’s victory as the youngest and first female speaker of the 5th Lagos State Youth Parliament is a testament to her resilience and dedication.

Throughout her journey to the top, she has proven herself to be a disciplined and focused young leader.

In her acceptance speech, she promised to work towards positive change and effective qualitative representation of youths’ interests in Lagos state.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; the Commissioner for Youth of Lagos State, Mobolaji Ogunlende; Vice Chairman of Agege, Hon. Oluwagbenga Abiola, the Vice Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State, Comrade Jamiu Ademosu.

She also acknowledged the first female Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Azeezat Yishawu, whom she regards as a role model.

The youth speaker emphasized the importance of unity, hard work, and perseverance, and urged her fellow parliamentarians to always dream big and never give up on their goals.

Soniregun has set the stage for a new era of youth leadership in Lagos state, and she is determined to make a positive impact on her community and beyond.
