In a thoughtful and timely bid to cushion the unintended hardship occasioned by fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies of the federal government, the Deputy Chief Whip of Isolo Legislative Arm, Hon. Yusuf Agbabiaka has doled out succor to constituents of his ward.
The lawmaker who represents Apena Ward in the 5th legislative assembly of Isolo LCDA gave out food items such as tubers of yam and crates of eggs to residents drawn from the zones and various areas in the ward.
At the event organized at his constituency office on Thursday, Agbabiaka hinged his decision on the need to complement his existing social programs for his constituents and impact more lives, especially in these trying times.
“This initiative was borne out of my desire to, in my little way, provide relief to my esteemed constituents and I desire to do more, by God’s grace,” Agbabiaka said.
The lawmaker who used the medium to reel out his scorecard added that he has been able to sponsor various bills, provide support for widows and elderly in the ward, facilitate the construction of Mukandasi and Sijuwola Streets, give out UTME forms and educational scholarships to some indigent students in the ward noting that the palliative program was in continuation of his social intervention program for residents.
He appreciated the residents for their confidence in him assuring that he would continually promote and protect their interest in the hallowed chambers.
In his remarks, the Ward Chairman, Professor Olawale Dasuki described the gesture as unprecedented as he showered encomium on the lawmaker.
His words: “I found it very exciting and interesting. It’s quite unexpected. It caught everybody by surprise because one doesn’t think that such will be happening by this time and given what he has done in the past, candidly, I will support him in all ramifications. I spoke freely with the beneficiaries so that when the time comes for election they shouldn’t forget him. This program is a great initiative and I believe that if he’s given a better chance he will do better,” he said.
The elated beneficiaries took turns to appreciate the councilor praying that his coffers will not run dry and more grease to his elbow.
“These food items will cost nothing less than eight or nine thousand and this is what a councilor has single-handedly given out to his constituents at this trying time. I am grateful to him and pray to God to always bless him,” said one of the beneficiaries.
Also, the event had in attendance the woman leader, Mrs Iyabode Oguntoye among others.
