The immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Isola, has opined that elections in Ogun state have not been about moneybags adding that the state’s sophistication prevents it from succumbing to financial incentives during elections.
Isola made the statement on Tuesday when he was conferred with the Outstanding Nigerian Diplomat award by the Freelancer and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (Ogun State chapter) at the celebration of World Radio Day celebration in Abeokuta.
Isola hinged his opinion on history noting that over the years highest spenders consistently lost out elections in the state.
Talking about vote buying, the revered politician dismissed the possibility of money influencing future elections in the state adding that Ogun electorates are politically conscious and enlightened. This is he as he urged other states to take a cue from the gateway state.
Hammering on the need for harmony in leadership transitions, Isola described it as a joint responsibility between leaders and the people, advocating for peace as a catalyst for anticipated and sustained development.
In a call for unity, Isola urged everyone to be advocates of peace, emphasizing that eight years is insufficient for comprehensive community or state development.
Regarding the significance of radio, he highlighted its accessibility, especially in rural areas, underscoring its influence as a powerful medium for disseminating messages across Nigeria.
