PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHAIRMAN, LAGOS WEST, NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA, LAGOS STATE CHAPTER THIS DAY 31st DECEMBER, 2023.
Official Statement Regarding Recent Developments within NYCN Lagos.
1. Distinguished Comrades and colleagues in Youth struggle, Gentlemen of the Press and well wishers.
2. Today, I stand in the capacity of my office as the Vice-Chairman Lagos west to provide clarification on recent developments within the council and specifically, our senatorial district. This release is intended to address concerns, uphold transparency, and maintain the integrity of our esteemed organization.
3. The Lagos West senatorial district has consistently invested deliberate efforts to ensure a robust presence of the National Youth Council in all 28 Local Governments (LG) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) within our jurisdiction. This commitment is a pointer to our dedication to fostering comprehensive youth development across the entire district.
4. We acknowledge the emergence of challenges stemming from actions by Comrade Lekan Biliaminu Oba. It appears his actions are directed towards creating disunity within the senatorial district and discrediting the commendable initiatives and feats we have thus achieved so far as a senatorial district. As leaders, it is our responsibility to address these concerns diligently.
5. To maintain the integrity of information and curb misinformation on the NYCN Lagos West platform, my attention was drawn to irregularities observed on the platform as regards the news of the recently concluded supposed ‘Annual Congress’ chaired by Comrade Lekan Biliaminu Oba. A gathering which by the Council’s constitution as amended in 2018 is a total violation.
6. In lieu of the constitutional provision designating oversight of the district’s affairs to the Vice-Chairman and necessity to adhere with our guidelines and rules of engagement. It is crucial to clarify that the presence of the Chairman, Comrade Lekan Biliaminu Oba, on the platform is a gesture of respect rather than a constitutional mandate. In response to a violation of community rules and norms, the leadership deemed it necessary to remove him from the group, prioritizing the cohesiveness and well-being of the NYCN Lagos West community.
7. Surprisingly, in response to these harmless actions, Comrade Lekan Biliaminu Oba removed me from all NYCN platforms, including the NYCN Lagos official Exco platform. This retaliatory action is viewed as an aberration and runs counter to the principles of fair and democratic engagement as outlined in the constitution. As we collectively strive for unity and progress, it is incumbent upon us to foster an environment where every member’s voice is heard, respected and supremacy on our guiding book – The constitution. Soon, the management committee of the senatorial district will jointly make a position on the happenings of the state.
8. I appreciate the continued support of our members, leaders, and stakeholders in ensuring the success and prosperity of NYCN Lagos.
BUILD THE YOUTH!!!
BUILD THE NATION!!
Signed
Comr. ADEMOSU Jamiu Adeyemi
Vice-Chairman Lagos West,
