Following the demise of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the acting governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been sworn in as the substantive governor of the state.

Aiyedatiwa’s swearing-in as the substantive governor was conducted by the Chief Judge of Ondo state.

Recall that Theliberationnews reported that Akeredolu died on Wednesday after a prolonged battle with leukemia and Prostate cancer.

Akeredolu, the 67-year-old politician returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany and only recently proceeded on another one after he was directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Aiyedatiwa.

His deputy, Aiyedatiwa, had been standing in as Acting Governor.

Aiyedatiwa’s walk to becoming the governor of Ondo State was a long one that lasted one year since Akeredolu suffered health challenges before he eventually succumbed to the claws of death on Wednesday.

Aiyedatiwa survived an impeachment plot by Akeredolu’s allies in the Ondo State House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Dare Aragbaiye has resigned his appointment.

Aragbaiye said his resignation was premised on the death of Akeredolu whom he regarded as his leader adding that he remains loyal to him even in death.
