History was made at the maiden edition of Lagos West Award as youths under the aegis National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos West decorated distinguished senator representing the district, Oluranti Adebule as grand matron, honored Lagos commissioner for youth and social development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende among others.

The award ceremony tagged ‘The Plaudit’ was held at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja and had in attendance notable individuals most of whom are present and past leaders of the youth organisation as well as some council chairmen in Lagos West.

According to the Chief Host and Vice Chairman of NYCN, Lagos West, Comrade Jamium Ademosu, the event which was the first-of-its-kind to be organised by the youth body was aimed at celebrating illustrious individuals from all walks of life across Lagos West.

Notable among the prominent individuals honoured at the elegant award ceremony were Senator Adebule, Lagos State Commissioner for youth and social development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, his counterpart from Ojo LGA and Oriade LCDA LGA Hon. Olusola Rosulu and Hon. Ramotallahi Akionla Hassan, respectively, Barrister Alatoye Azeez among others.

Ademosu explained that the youth body decided to decorate the senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule as its grand matron on such occasion noting that the federal lawmaker has been of immense support to youths in the district.

“The Plaudit is a celebration of excellence. It’s a celebration of ingenuity. It’s a celebration of brilliance, it’s a celebration of achievement. This is what we’ve come here to do today, to celebrate illustrious individuals in activism, business, politics and all. The reason for this is not far-fetched, it’s our way of encouraging excellence and ultimately ensuring that the world becomes a better place. We are also celebrating past and present leaders of this prestigious organisation today for their selfless and sincere contribution to youth development. It’s a thing of joy to be celebrated during one’s lifetime and that also what we’ve done today. It was intentional that we chose today for this celebration because of what it means, it’s a symbolic day in the history of our dear nation, a day when we celebrate the efforts of our national heroes – leaders of the youth councils are our heroes and they deserve to be celebrated.

“Also, we’ve just decorated the Senator representing our district in the red chamber, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule as our Grand Matron owing to her commitment to advancing youths’ cause. Before she emerged as senator and since she got the mandate, Dr. Adebule has been at the vanguard of championing youth development, inclusion and that obligated us to give her this singular honour,” Ademosu said.

Also, he added that the youth body honoured the Lagos state commissioner for youths and social development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende based on his antecedence as an illustrious youth and commitment to promoting youth activities.

Ogunlende bagged the Outstanding Youth Development Initiator award at the grand occasion. He described the award as a special one and lauded the youth body for successfully putting up such a wonderful event. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting their course.

On his part, the chairman of the planning committee, Comrade Adigun Ibrahim expressed his delight to have led the committee adding that his experience as the organiser of the maiden youths and governance symposium organised by the youth body in 2022 wherein thousands of youths were in attendance guided him to making the award ceremony a success.

Adigun who doubles as the coordinator of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye local branch commended his counterparts from other local branches for the confidence reposed in him to chair the committee as he dedicated the success of the event to them.

Another major highlight of the event was the cutting of cake to mark the country’s independence day celebration.
