All roads led to the Isolo City Hall, in Isolo area of Lagos, on Saturday as notable Rotarians, Rotaractors and dignitaries graced the installation ceremony of Rotaractor Damilola Kushimo as the 37th President of Rotaract Club of Isolo.
The guests and teeming well-wishers defied the heavy rain which began at around mid-day, the kick-off time of the event, to rejoice with Kushimo and the board of directors who will drive the club towards new heights in the 2023-2024 ‘Create Hope In The World’ Year.
Delivering his acceptance, Kushimo, who could not hold back his emotions described his presidency as a great privilege as he promised his commitment to help the club “Create Hope in the world” by carrying out developmental and transformational projects for the betterment of humanity.
His words, “It’s a great privilege to be the 37th president of this prestigious club. Rotaract Club of Isolo is a prominent service club in Isolo that has contributed immensely to the continuous growth of this cosmopolitan community. Like our sponsoring club; Rotary Club of Isolo, Rotaract Club of Isolo has, over the years, steadfastly established Rotary values and goals in the community and it is on that note that I will like to appreciate previous leaders of the club for preserving this wonderful platform for almost four decades. The responsibility placed on me and my board of directors for this rotary year is simple, it is to create hope in the world by undertaking programs and projects in consonance with rotary goals and values. This we will do selflessly and we humbly appeal for your generous donation towards achieving this humanitarian goals.
He explained upon thorough needs-assessment exercise carried out by the club, it came up with numerous projects in line with Rotary’s areas of focus which include Water hygiene and sanitation, peacebuilding and resolution, maternal and child health, Basic Education and literacy, Economic Community Development among others and a budget of three million naira to executive them.
He added that the projects are in addition to what the club has done, so far, in the current year which include donation of clippers to two indigent barbers in the community, thorough sanitation of the Isolo City Hall and donation of Industrial waste bin to the facility, back-to-school projects in partnership with Rotary Club of Isolo and Zone F (D9110), among others.
Kushimo reiterated the need for support from well-meaning individuals in the community and beyond in the club’s sincerest quest to continually add value to humanity.
On his part, the guest speaker, Rotarian Ag. Efedi Jelily who spoke on the topic ‘Inspiring Hope Through Positive Change and Community Empowerment,” lent his voice to the call for support for the club towards achieving its goals for the year.
The president of Rotary Club of Isolo, Rotarian Hajia Abimbola Oseni who was one of the special guests at the occasion congratulated Kushimo and the board of directors as she renewed her commitment to supporting the club.
Also, the District Rotaract Representative (DRR), Rotaractor Mujib Abisogun, the president-elect of Rotary Club of Isolo, Rotarian Tokunboh Allison, a one-time president of Rotary Club of Isolo, Rotarian Lukmon Olajide, CEO of Onix Group, Prince Nixon Okwara who was represented by Hon. Sylvester Obi; the Special Adviser to the Chairman of Isolo LCDA on Ethnicity, pledged their support for the club.
Notable among others in attendance included, Barrister Olukunle Oyewole and Mr. Segun Fasuanmi, the managing director of Sarobol Nigeria Limited.
