Mallam Umar Habeeb, principal of the Federal Government College (FGC), Maiduguri, Borno State, has sadly disclosed that out of the 240 students that were given admission into the school, only five have come forward to collect their admission letters.
The principal spoke at the 50th anniversary of the school over the weekend where he noted that the remaining 235 could not receive their letters because of excruciating economic hardship ravaging the land.
Habeeb has therefore, called on the Borno State Government and wealthy people from the state to quickly intervene and save 89 indigenes that had secured admission on merit but couldn’t pay the school fees.
However, hope appears on the horizon when the alumni, in response to the principal’s appeal, made collective and individual pledges to sponsor 98 new students who cannot sponsor themselves due to prevailing economic hardship.
Theliberationnews believes that the shortfall amongst the admitted but indigent students will hopefully have other well meaning wealthy individuals come to their rescue.
