Dr. Bukola Saraki, former Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has cleared the medical bill of ailing Nollywood actor, Mr John Okafor that is popularly known as Mr Ibu.
This act of humanity came a few days after Mr Ibu reached out to Nigerians on his social media handles that he needed financial help to deal with his illness.
Mr. Ibu did not disclose the nature of his illness but hinted that his legs might be amputated if help did not come in good time.
However, this attracted the attention of the former Senate President who immediately directed his foundation, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) foundation to immediately donate the required funds to clear all medical expenses of the actor.
ABS foundation is a non-profit organisation that was established by Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
The foundation is dedicated to improving lives of poor/needy Nigerians through a variety of programs and initiatives.
On Wednesday, the ace actor took to Instagram to plead for financial assistance.
Since a video of Ibu on the sickbed hit the internet, several people have announced their donations to the ailing actor.
In a statement on Friday via X, the foundation revealed the “entire medical expenses of Ibu have been paid off as of Wednesday”.
“The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation is honoured to have extended support to Mr. John Okafor also known as Mr. Ibu, a renowned comedic icon who has graced our screens and brought joy and laughter to countless homes over the past four decades,” the statement reads.
“When we learned of his recent health challenges and the financial burdens associated with his medical treatment, we felt a deep sense of responsibility to assist in any way we could. We promptly paid off his entire medical expenses as of Ailing Actor.
Shehu Sani, the Nigerian senator, had earlier assured that he would ensure that the attention of notable Nigerians is drawn to Ibu’s plight.
Paul Okoye, the singer, also called on his colleagues and fans to support the actor.
