Few days after giving out N10,000 subsidy palliative to the entirety of the council workforce, the Executive chairman of Isolo LCDA, Lagos State, Olasoju Adebayo has doled out N25,000 family support palliative to no fewer than 500 households in the council area.
According to Olasoju, the palliative program, was held to not only commemorate his second anniversary in office but to complement the efforts of state and federal government in alleviating the effects of fuel subsidy removal on households.
The event recorded attendance from not only the beneficiaries but notable personalities in the council area and beyond which included Chief M.A. Taiwo a notable member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) who had come to rejoice with Olasoju on his remarkable 24 months in office. Recall, the council honcho had kick-started the noble celebration with a thanksgiving service on Sunday at his Family Church: RCCG, Victory Assembly, Okota.
Recall Theliberationnews reported last week that Olasoju splashed a whooping sum of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,500,000) on six exemplary staff of the council and announced N10,000 bonus for the entirety of the council staff as a palliative to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.
In his address, Olasoju explained that it is only ideal to commemorate the second anniversary with such an event even though it is one of the frequently held programs of council administration. He added that it’s one of the ways the council intends to complement the state and federal governments’ efforts on post-subsidy palliative aimed at cushioning the effects of the policy on Nigerian homes.
“In addition to this program, we will launch our food bank soon to further ameliorate the attendant challenges of subsidy removal. We realised that the last time we held an empowerment program of this kind, people collected by proxy but this time around, we’ve decided to give everyone accreditation tag to ensure that those we designed the program for get it and it doesn’t get diverted. Some were disqualified during the screening process because this program is for low-income earners. We will, in due course, evolve programs that will capture medium-income earners. Special appreciation to Community Development Community (CDC), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) market leaders and others for ensuring that this gesture got to those who merit it. We believe this palliative will enhance their businesses and improve the livelihood of their respective families,” Olasoju said.
The council boss, used the medium to, once again, mention the free medical programme slated for Thursday, 10th August as he urged attendees to turn out en mass at council secretariat to make the most of the project.
“Tomorrow we will be having a free medical health mission. Please, come and take advantage, Tell your neighbour, they will be screened for sugar level, blood pressure, eye test, dental consultation, and general medical check up. They will be given drugs and, as usual, referral will be done to the general hospital, especially for critical cases.”
“May I use this medium to, once again, urge us to intensify our prayers for president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the state governors and also council chairmen. Let’s emulate Americans who consciously or unconsciously pray for their country. This is our country, this is our home, the peace, progress and development of this country is to our advantage.”
Speaking at the event, Chief M.A. Taiwo, Oba-Elect of Oke-Alo/Gbagada/Mende HRM Habeeb Adeshina Faronbi, Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Barrister Gani Bello, Otunba Jide Oni among other dignitaries at the event gave Olasoju pats on his back for his remarkable programs and projects since he assumed office the height of which was the dubbing of Olasoju “Arakunrin Wa” – Our Gentleman by Oba-elect Faronbi.
On their part, Star actors, Bimbo Thomas and Alesh Ola Sanni, remarked that, indeed, Isolo is lucky to have Olasoju at the helm owing to his giant strides as they called for more support for him to unlock more feats. The duo accepted the task of presenting the enveloped sum of N25,000 to a number of beneficiaries with an advice to them to expend it on growing their business.
A beneficiary Mrs. Victoria Osega who trades at Afenifere Market, Okota, was full of praises for the council chairman. Same with Mrs. Elizabeth Adebayo who resides on Iyewa Street, Isolo with both women promising to invest the cash endowment on their trades.
On the sideline of the program, cash donation was made to a physically challenged staff of the council on the prompting of the programme anchor, Olaniyi Afonja who noted Damilola Johnson’s patriotism and selflessness before the audience. Moved by this submission, the council boss directed the Johnson be included on the listed for cash award as was meted out to some staff of the council recently while Otunba Jide Oni placed him on his foundation’s monthly salary of N25,000.
