In what it described as a show of shame, the Imo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has relieved a special marshal of this duty for participating in the nationwide protest by the labour unions in the state on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
This was made known by the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Imo State, Evaristus Ebeniro when he addressed a pressmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Friday, August 4.
Ebeniro explained that the officer participated in the protest in a special marshal regalia.
Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) embarked on a nationwide protest on Wednesday to register their displeasure over the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Ebeniro stated that the FRSC officer had been arrested, adding that the regalia had been recovered from him.
The Corps Commander said: “The incident prompted the command to commence investigation to unravel the identity of the protester.
“It is now confirmed that the protester who happened to be a unionist was once a special marshal.
“The command hereby makes it categorically and unequivocally clear that the protester is no longer with the Corps and that he acted alone in that show of shame.”
