It was a match to remember for Nigeria’s Super Falcons as they shared the spoils after a nail-biting opening match of the Women’s World Cup competition with fellow group B contenders, Canada.

Many thanks to the legendary goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie who saved a penalty kick awarded to Canada in the 48th minute following a VAR review.

The game which kicked off around 3:30 a.m. ended around 5.30 a.m. Nigerian time without a goal from either side. It was Nigeria’s first draw in the 27 games the country has played in the competition.
Nigeria midfielder, Deborah Abiodun was shown a red card in the seventh minute of the eight-minute extra time at the end of the game when a VAR review determined her tackle of a Canadian player as rough.
Nigeria is to play co-host, Australia in the next match.
