The blood banks of Gbagada General Hospital gained some pints of blood as Wafeeqah Foundation organised blood donation exercise.

The humanitarian activity, held on Saturday, recorded voluntary blood donations from individuals in the community.

Speaking on the importance of the exercise, the Convener, Miss Wafeeqah Ajala explained that it was borne out of her desire to foster the values of humanity by improving the quality of lives. She added that the benefits therein the exercise are both for the donor and the needy.

According to her, “Blood donation is a humanitarian activity that does not only mean saving a life but adding value to life. To the donor, blood donation helps reduce stress, and improve emotional well-being, It is of good benefit to physical health as it helps get rid of negative feelings. It also provides a sense of belonging and reduces isolation.”

“Again, It is true that a blood in the bag saves life. A lot of lives might have been saved if blood bags were readily filled with blood and this is another reason that this program became important. The exercise was based on willingness of the donor and I think that was because we were able to convince them of the benefits abound.”

Speaking on the measures that were observed before carrying out the activity, Ajala explained that the donors were screened to ensure that it was safe for them to donate noting that others that were diagnosed of one ailment or the other were advised as appropriate.

She added that this is one of the many ways her foundation noting than any humanitarian activities had been done in the past with many more in the offing.

One of the donors, Ibrahim Adigun expressed his delight to have partook in the exercise. His words: “I have to confess that, it was a pleasure to have donated. The fact that I don’t know who I might be helping with this donation made the activity more appealing. Kudos to Wafeeqah Foundation for putting this together. I will sure me willing to donate next time.”

On his part, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Bakre Hamzat appreciated the management of the government-owned hospital for partnering with the foundation in carrying out the exercise.
