Shun Social Vices, Aim At Academic, Moral Excellence, Lagos Council Chair Tells Students

It was an unusual morning assembly for students of Matori Senior Grammar School on Wednesday as the Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo graced the early morning activity.

The visitation was Olasoju’s second in quick succession having led his exco members, management staff and councilors to carry out a tree planting exercise in the school last Friday.

Dressed in an ash-coloured trendy “senator” outfit with a deep semblance of the school’s uniform, Olasoju in his characteristic self led by example as he got to the premises at exactly 7:20 a.m. alongside members of his entourage which included the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Adeshina, Chief of Staff, Hon. Musbau Quadri, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) Hon. Segun Olatunde, Supervisor for Works, Hon. Yusuf Oni, Supervisor for Chieftaincy, Hon. Olamide Taiwo and Supervisor for Ethnicity, Hon. Sylvester Obi, among others.

Delivering a pep talk on the assembly ground, the council boss charged his fellow Matorians on academic excellence and moral uprightness as he urged them to take a cue from the lives and achievements of illustrious alumni like himself.

He mentioned other alumni like the First Class Graduate of the University of Ibadan and CEO of Bluechip Technologies Kazeem Tewogbade, former Nigerian footballer, Fatai Atere MON, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Akeem Muniru, et.al.

He recalled how they competed for honours during his time and shunned the proclivities of hooliganism, thuggery and cultism.

The council boss who was a one-time assistant Time Keeper of the school and pioneer social prefect encouraged the pupils to remain purpose-driven with their academics and ultimately strive to be good ambassadors of the school.

His words: “Don’t let your academic pursuit be just for record purpose, be purposeful and goal-driven in order to make yourself proud and the nation, at large. Three are there vices that might likely take you from the path of academic excellence and greatness in life, they are bad company, bad character and lack of determination. Make up your mind against these vices and you will make yourself proud. You can be the best you want to be if you are determined and committed.”

Olasoju acknowledged the effort of the school’s principal, Mrs. Oketunmbi and other staff in keeping up with its legacies that have transcended decades.

For the students, the pleasurable highlight of the day’s assembly, as it seemed, was the order of photographs with the council boss as they could not hide their excitement while posing in various categories before the camera lens after his insightful and inspiring presentation.
