The presidential election petition court has tongue-lashed the lawyers of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr. Peter Obi over their unpreparedness at Thursday proceedings.
At the proceedings which lasted about four hours, Obi’s lawyers who had initially indicated their readiness to commence from Rivers State in the tendering of polling unit were, however, unable to achieve the feat, owing to the haphazard arrangements of the documents by the petitioners.
While expressing the court’s frustration at the petitioners’ coordination of the case, the Justices admonished Obi’s lawyers to put their house in order, so as not to continue wasting the court’s time.
Cautioning the lawyers, Honourable Justice S.J. Adah suggested that the lawyers had perhaps, underrated the enormity of their responsibility as petitioners, as it was necessary to properly arrange the documents that they intend to rely upon in support of their case before the court.
Recall that at the previous proceedings of the court on 31st May, 2023, lawyers to Mr. Obi had sought the indulgence of the court for an adjournment in order to enable them put their documents together for tendering.
Though the indulgence was granted by the court, indications emerged at today’s proceedings, that they are yet to put things in place as previously undertaken by them.
