All issues may have been cleared to ensure the smooth take-off of the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly on June 6 as the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has decided that the incumbent speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa will speak again.
The decision was met on Saturday, 3 June 2023, to avoid further escalation of the leadership tussle between Obasa and Hon. Murainu Tobun, lawmaker representing Epe Constituency 1.
Theliberationnews gathered that with Obasa leading the 10th assembly, Tobun will be the new Deputy Speaker of the House to replace Honourable Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni who has been elected to represent Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber.
An impeccable source privy to the meeting explained to Theliberationnews that the meeting was at the order of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who mandated the GAC members to meet, deliberate and take final decision on the lingering Speakership crisis in the state House of Assembly.
“When the GAC members met on Saturday, many factors were considered mainly on the stability in the House, the principle of checks and balances as well as the issue of zoning.
“It was decided that the evolution of power in the state has naturally settled the zoning balance: Governor from Lagos Central, Deputy from Lagos East and Speaker from Lagos West,” sources told media from the meeting.
The meeting also agreed that Honourable Tobun should be the new Deputy Speaker of the House while the members were given the prerogative to choose the other Principal Officers.
