On the heels of a reckless and mischievous declaration of gubernatorial result by the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Adamawa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has annulled the result and described Saturday’s supplementary gubernatorial election as inconclusive.
Recall that Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC), had declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, as winner of the election under controversial circumstances as he did not announce the figures.
Via a statement obtained on INEC’s platform by Theliberationnews, Festus Okoye, INEC spokesman, overruled him and ordered the suspension of the collation.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded. The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.
“Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended. The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately. Detailed statement to follow shortly.”
Though Ari claimed he acted on the order of “Someone from Abuja,” Theliberationews gathered that he acted reckless and mischievously through his latest act that could likely puncture the fragile peace and tranquility in the country and ultimately paint Nigeria’s democracy in a false light.
