President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent soothing words of prayers to victims and families of those involved in the early morning train accident that occurred in the PWD Area of Ikeja, Lagos State on Thursday.
The accident involving a moving train and a Staff bus of the state government claimed the lives of no fewer than six persons while 80 other passengers suffered various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the accident, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), explained that the avoidable accident was caused by sheer recklessness of the bus driver who tried to beat the signal traffic of the moving train.
In his characteristic show of sympathy, the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has offered sincere sympathies to victims and their families while enjoining caregivers to ensure that survivors and others involved in the accident are given the best medical care.
The statement read: “I offer my sincere condolences to the victims and families affected by the gory incident involving a train and a bus in the Ikeja area of Lagos State earlier today.
“I am praying for all, including those who died and those who sustained injuries in the tragic and unfortunate incident.
“My thoughts are with them and with the Lagos State Government, even as I continue to follow the emergency response efforts closely and offer support, where necessary, to ensure that survivors and others involved receive the best care.”
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on his part, expressed shock at the incident as he prayed to God to grant the departed souls eternal rest.
It was reliably gathered by Theliberationnews that the governor who was scheduled to host youths across the state today in an interactive session had postponed the engagement indefinitely to sympathize with victims of this unfortunate incident.

Theliberationnews gathered that the governor is currently at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) where the 42 passengers who sustained moderate injuries and the other 29 passengers with serious injuries as well as the remaining 8 with mild wounds are receiving medical treatment.

One of LASUTH’s senior medical team who spoke with Theliberationnews on condition of anonymity noted that the governor has been offering emotional support to the victims, their families and also that his physical presence is boosting morale of medical team on ground.
