Facts have emerged about how the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the just-concluded February 25 election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed benefited from a rigged election in 2011 before being ousted from the Senate by the election petition tribunal.
As gathered by Theliberationnews, Datti, the senatorial candidate of Congress For Progressives Change (CPC) emerged as the senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District.
According to Theliberationnews investigation, at the conclusion of the then April 28, 2011 National Assembly elections, Datti was declared winner of Kaduna-North Senatorial District. He was subsequently inaigurated alongside 108 other winners as new members of the hallowed red chamber.
However, in November 2011, the election petition tribunal sitting in Kaduna entertained the petition of Ahmed Makarfi, the former Kaduna State governor and senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had contested the election with Datti.
Makarfi alleged that the election was rigged in favour of Datti Ahmed of the CPC.
Subsequently, the tribunal ordered a recount of the votes and subsequently affirmed that the result of the election was rigged for Datti Baba Ahmed. The recounted votes proved that Ahmed Makarfi won.
Subsequently, the tribunal directed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to retrieve Datti’s certificate of return and handed it over to Senator Ahmed Makarfi of the PDP. That was how shameless Ahmed Datti justifiably lost the mandate that he stole from Makarfi.
Commenting on Datti’s failed spoiler move in the just concluded election, a political analyst, Samuel Orasaye advised the Daze University Owner to allow the election tribunal do its job and desist from inciting anarchy by his move.
“Datti Baba Ahmed was a beneficiary of a rigged election. That is why he was erroneously inaugurated without any efforts by Makarfi to pull the entire roof down on everybody. One important fact is that the man whose mandate Datti stole, followed laid down route by law to reclaim his mandate.
“It is therefore preposterous and hypocritical for Datti Ahmed and even Peter Obi who once reclaimed his mandate from the court to now come out and be threatening fire and brimstone that the winners of an election should not be inaugurated. If he has a good case, he and Obi should follow the path that Makarfi followed to attempt to retrieve “his mandate.”
That is the established and honorable thing to do. His baseless alleged sponsorships of protesters amongst others amount to ani invitation to anarchy,” he said.
