A dark day for Manchester United, as they were smashed 7-0 by Liverpool, but at least some supporters saw the funny side…
Liverpool’s 7-0 demolition of Manchester United sent shockwaves around the football world on Sunday, and prompted some hilarious responses from Africa’s football fans.
While Red Devils supporters were quick to point out their team’s failings, there was no stopping Liverpool fans as they celebrated a remarkable victory.
Here’s the pick of the supporter reaction from the continent.
The last Man Utd team to win at Anfield: Where are they now?
Can we still back ten Hag?
Erik ten Hag might be enjoying goodwill at Old Trafford after enjoying an excellent start to life at the club, but some supporters believe his success ought to be scrutinised after Sunday’s result.
“Bro man united used to be a bigger team not this,” wrote @gasic_geek. “We can’t lose 4- 0 to Brentford, 6-3 to City and 7-0 to Liverpool and still back the manager.
“He acts like a top coach but he’s never won a major trophy.”
Does He Have A Point?
‘Shame and shamble’
For @TSA__87, the crushing by Liverpool represented a new low in his time supporting the club.
“The biggest humbling of my life as a Man United fan,” he wrote. “This was a humiliating moment.
“A totally shameful and shamble football from Man Utd.”
We feel his pain!
Did Liverpool Do It For Ronaldo?
One South African user posited an intriguing theory that may explain Liverpool’s desire to inflict that much woe on their old rivals!
“That seven felt so personal,” wrote @Boblarney. “Did Liverpool do it for CR7?
“Man United brought down to earth by a rampant Liverpool!”
Thank you to loadshedding
One South African user was relieved that they were unable to witness United’s mauling due to loadshedding, which presumably prevented them from watching.
“To think I was upset cause loadshedding deprived me of the Man United game,” wrote @Gee_Kites. “I should be counting my blessings.”
Bad Day At The Office?
Botswana supporter @MavenJefferson appears keen to move on after the defeat.
“Man United fans,” he wrote. “We had a bad day at the office.”
Something of an understatement there!
CANCEL THEM!
South African fan Zinhle K. Rapule called for drastic action as United unravelled.
“Man United should be cancelled!” she urged, while @Khwezi_bass was a little more optimistic about the future.
“We take our Ls on the chin,” they wrote. “We will bounce back, we are Man United.”
AGGREGATE SCORE IS UNBELIEVABLE
Appearing to enjoy the moment, @AcckyMumbi was quick to remind United fans about Liverpool’s recent record against them.
“Liverpool vs Man United in their last five EPL games,” he wrote. “LIV 21-4 MUN.”
End of the road
This result may prompt some United fans to give up on the Red Devils…
They’ll still finish above Arsenal
Arsenal supporter @KayRanjis, weighing in on United’s defeat from Zimbabwe, is still forecasting doom and gloom for his beloved Gunners.
Liverpool fan @Zackyns isn’t convinced, however, and sees his Reds overhauling Ten Hag’s United.
“Enjoy your 7-0 defeat,” he wrote. “We’ll finish above United this season, no doubt about that.”
Could it have been 10?
Celebrated South African Robin Adams believed that things could have even been more difficult for United.
STAGE SEVEN
Responding to United’s defeat from a South African point of view, @NaeemLFC had this to say: “Man United hit by Stage 7 Load-shedding,” he wrote!
Wannabes?
Should this defeat come as a reality check for United’s continental ambitions?
