In the presence of thousands of residents, loyalists, supporters and stakeholders from all walks of life, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Saturday, flagged off his deserving re-election campaign tagged “Greater Lagos Rising”

The governor, alongside his cosmopolitan running mate, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, were received into the exceedingly filled 10,000-capacity Mobolaji Johnson arena where the epoch-making event was held with palpitating cheers from the jubilant crowd.

Declaring his re-election bid, the governor prided himself on the achievements of his administration in the last three and half years which he said were achieved despite obvious socio-economic difficulties. He declared he was seeking renewal of the four-year mandate to consolidate his all-round successes in governance of the state.

His words: “I greet you all, our supporters. Truly, this is the day the Lord has chosen. We are happy God has given us good health. I’m happy for you to have come out in large numbers.

“Just last week, you came out in large numbers to witness the presidential rally. I want to thank you, friends, supporters and well-wishers. You have come out again today to show love and commitment.“In Lagos, it is only APC that is in charge and we won’t take you for granted. This is why my appreciation goes to every one of you.

“It’s been an impressive three and a half years together with my deputy and the Lagos Assembly. It was a time we saw a global pandemic, but we continue to remain resolute. We have all come out stronger.”

Shedding more light on his new campaign catchword ‘Greater Lagos Rising’, Sanwo-Olu explained that, it aptly describes the manifestation of his ‘Greater Lagos’ agenda in the last three and half years as seen in all sectors of governance.

“You have seen rails in Lagos, which you have not seen in about 40 to 50 years ago. It has been completed; we will be handing it over. You have seen new ferries; we now have up to 17 ferries. You have seen the completion of the Lekki Deep Sea Port.“You have seen the construction of roads in Epe, regional roads, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Alimosho, Ajeromi, Ifako-Ijaiye, Somolu and in every part of the State. It is about purposeful governance.

“You have seen the clearing of drains and over 200 drainages are being constructed. Over 1,000 new classrooms have been constructed, and over 1,000 school projects were done. Lagos had witnessed about 42 per cent performance in WAEC but today; we have about 82 to 83 per cent performance.

“Greater Lagos Rising,’ because we still have a lot to do. You have to deliver votes to all our candidates.”

Citing another reason why he should be elected, the governor referenced how his administration rose to the task of proactively and effectively containing the perennial flooding in many parts of the state regardless of the fact that the state is barely two meters above the sea level.

He called on his teeming supporters to retain his team as well as ensure victory for other candidates of the party beginning with the Presidential candidate and his running mate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, the national assembly and state house of assembly candidates in the state.

Earlier, in his address, the Director General of Lagos APC Campaign Council, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, explained that the governor has an impressive achievement to show for his first term in office, hence, canvassing for the people’s support will come at ease as he expressed his optimism that, upon their emergence, Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat Lagos would experience greater developments.

The Party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi assured the electorate that the party would keep sustaining the state on the path of development and prosperity as he charged them to come out en masse on Election Day to vote for the party candidates from the federal level to the state House of assembly.

The high point of the historical event was the presentation of party flags to Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, the National Assembly candidates and the 40 state House Of Assembly candidates.

The colourful event also had in attendance the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, Fife of Former Lagos Governor, Alhaja Abimbola Jakande, Wife of former Governor of Oyo State, Florence Ajumobi, Fuji Maestro King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal among others.
