Aare Dele Momodu, globally renowned journalist, publisher of OVATION Magazine International and former presidential aspirant in the last presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on Thursday during an Arise TV’s programme, The Morning Show appearance, called for understanding from some PDP members that have been mounting pressure on Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate to unilaterally work for the removal of its national chairman, Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu.

He pointed out that the party’s standard flagbearer cannot single-handedly remove Ayu from his national chairmanship position and such a call is nothing but unfair.

Momodu declared that now is the auspicious time for Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state and his supporters to forgive the perceived injustice against him and allow a forward movement by working to ensure the victory of the party.

In the Arise TV programme monitored by Theliberationnews, Momodu declared: “It, forgiveness, is nothing new. It is recognised in every religion that when people offend you and come to you, which I think Atiku has done, the rest is within the party and the aggrieved members.

“My own worry is that we seem to be putting so much pressure on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar like he can unilaterally remove the chairman of the party. Even If he (Atiku) should do that, a lot of us will feel vilified. He cannot do it (remove Ayu) and all he can do is speak with Dr. Ayu and we don’t know what is going on between all of them.

“I know nobody will want to be seen in that light. Like anytime Governor Wike says you must go, you must go, it becomes a psychological thing as well for the party. It doesn’t work that way. Some of these things we have discussed privately with some of our party members and we believe that nobody should attempt to make our candidate look so weak or like someone that just can be pushed around.

“I mean, can I go to Governor Wike’s state and just tell him to go and sack the state’s party chairman? He doesn’t have the power to do so. It can’t happen. So, that is my position.”

In an earlier report, Theliberationnews published Wike’s disenchantment having lost PDP’s presidential ticket to Atiku in the party’s primaries and has vowed to either get Ayu removed or else, he de markets Atiku despite several appeals against such move from within the party topmost hierarchy.

The hall mark of Wike group’s rebellion was the group’s decision to pull out of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday.
