Super Falcons and other contending teams in this year’s WAFCON will have cause to smile if they do well following the jacking up of prize money for the tournament.
In line with the promise by CAF to make women’s football in Africa globally competitive, CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced 150% increase in prize money for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022.
The tournament gets underway today with hosts Morocco flagging off proceedings against Burkina Faso at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, in Rabat.
The overall prize money of the competition according to Motsepe has been jacked up from USD 975 000
to USD2400 000 an increase of almost USD 1.5 million.

The winner of this year’s edition will pocket USD 500 000 a 150% increase of USD 300 000. Previously, winners took home USD 200 000.
The prize money for runners-up has almost doubled from USD 175 000 to USD 300 000 and the semi-finalists will get USD 225 000 each increased from USD 125 000.
