On July 11, 2022, it will be one year since the death of veteran singer and legend, Olanrewaju ‘Sound Sultan’ Fasasi who lost a battle to cancer at the age of 44.

To mark Sound Sultan’s one year remembrance, friends, fans and family members will pay tributes to the talented creative and a pacesetter of modern Hip-Hop in Nigeria who blessed the world with his multiple gifts.

His elder brother Baba Dee told Netng on Thursday, June 30, 2022, that the events, organised by the Fasasi’s own brain child, Naija Ninja Records and Now Muzik, will take place in three different cities – Lagos, London and Brooklyn, New York where he was buried.

This commemoration will herald the release of Sound Sultan’s posthumous project titled “Reality Chq”, a five-track album featuring 2Baba and distributed by Empire Music. It was first announced at NECLive9 in April 2022.

Prior to this release, on July 10, 2022, an album listening party for “Reality Chq”, featuring industry professionals and colleagues, will be held at 1515 Atlantic Avenue, Acoustik Garden Lounge, Brooklyn, New York by 5pm EDT. This special event will also mark the premier of the icon’s new video titled “Friends”.

Last year, on July 24, 2021, Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive), together with the Fasasi family and industry stakeholders, combined to play host to Sultan’s friends, family and colleagues at Terra Kulture, Lagos in order to celebrate the influence of Sound Sultan in music, film, basketball and creative art.

The event featured an evening of music, poetry, comedy, tributes and commentaries on the late social commentator who was himself a NECLive facilitator while he was alive.

One year later, this friendship remains true and Netng will provide live updates from the different memorial events on its websites and social media platforms.

A creator and mentor who perpetually tapped into the true power of art beyond its entertaining capabilities, Sound Sultan used his talent as a tool for societal education and the advancement of humanity. He should be celebrated through and through.
