In line with its transformational agenda, the Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to transform the recently cleared open space underneath the Ijora Bridge, into a recreational zone.

The space as observed by Theliberationnews was previously occupied by squatters and street urchins.

Recall the Lagos State Government had authorised the removal of illegal structures under the Ijora Bridge after a five-day notice was given to squatters to vacate the area.

The imminent development was made known by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab via a social media post

Wahab explained that the decision to repurpose the Ijora under bridge as a recreational area is in line with the state’s ongoing efforts in urban revitalisation adding that the initiative aims to complement the concurrent renovation of the nearby National Theatre Complex.

“The objective is to rejuvenate the public space for the benefit of Lagos residents, with community members actively participating in the inspection and planning process,” added the commissioner.
