The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN, has raised the bar of equality in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) by constituting an all- female leadership for the 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee (AGCPC).

In a groundbreaking announcement, Maikyau has raised the bar of equality in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) by constituting an all-female team to lead the planning and execution of the prestigious 64th Annual General Conference (AGC) in 2024.

The reconstituted AGCPC, as revealed in a statement from the association’s secretariat, is set to be chaired by Oyinkansola Badejo Okusanya as the Chairperson, with Amina Suleiman Kaoje serving as the Alternate Chairperson. Laura Alakija takes on the crucial role of Secretary, and Chika Eucharia Okorie is appointed as the Alternate Secretary.

NBA President, Maikyau, in his personally signed statement, emphasized the association’s commitment to inclusivity and the recognition of its female members’ immense talent and capability.

The unprecedented decision marks the first time in the history of the NBA that an all-female team will lead the AGCPC, signalling a significant milestone in gender representation within the legal profession.
