Benin Football Federation has reportedly hired the service of former coach of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr as head coach of her national team, the Squirrels.
The Franco-German was appointed on Tuesday following the meeting of members of the Executive Committee of the Benin Football Federation and he is expected to resume in his new role on February 21st, 2023.
The former super eagles coach, Rohr lead the Super Eagles to win the third-place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament held in Egypt.
The 69-year-old was relieved of his position as the Super Eagles head coach in December, 2021.
With the Beninese job in his grasp, it serves as his fifth African assignment having coached Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso and most recently Nigeria’s senior national teams.
The then NFF President, Amaju Pinnick cited that the 68-year-old coach failed to enforce discipline in the team adding that there were so many things not known to the public on the matter.
“We did everything that we could, but one major factor was that discipline in the team is lost practically.”
