Young individuals in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have been urged to resist the proclivity of engaging in social vices, especially substance intake and drug abuse.
The advice was given by the Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isolo Local Branch, Damilola Kushimo, during an enlightenment session with students of Destination Academy; an educational institution for secondary school students and tertiary institution admission hopefuls.

Kushimo described substance intake and cultism as deadly social vices capable of cutting short the promising future of young people and destroying their academic, social, and moral development.
He stressed that many youths who get involved in such acts often derail from their life goals and become liabilities to themselves, their families, and society at large.

He encouraged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, cultivate positive friendships, and resist peer pressure that could lure them into destructive habits.

According to him, discipline, self-belief, determination, and the right mindset are critical ingredients for success in life.
The youth leader also advised the students to seek guidance from teachers, parents, and mentors whenever they face challenges, rather than turning to drugs or other harmful activities as coping mechanisms.
The interactive session also featured discussions on the causes and consequences of drug abuse, as well as practical ways young people can avoid and break free from addiction as the youth leader encouraged the students to take a firm position against the vices and others.

While appreciating the proprietor of the academy, Mr. Daniel Osibanjo, for the opportunity given, Kushimo reaffirmed the commitment of the NYCN Isolo Local Branch to continually engage youths across the council area through advocacy and enlightenment programmes aimed at promoting responsible behaviour and building a better future for the younger generation.
