The Oyo State Government has presented a customised vehicle to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to enhance operations at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
A statement in Ibadan on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, said the presentation of the vehicle was to support the airport’s critical aviation infrastructure.
The statement quoted the Chairman of the Airport Upgrade Committee, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as saying that the vehicle was equipped with unique and special communication aids.
Mr Adekanmbi said that the donation reinforces the government’s commitment to upgrading the airport, adding that local flights had started operations while work was ongoing on the international terminal.
“As part of the commitment of the Government of Oyo State to continue upgrade of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, we are presenting this vehicle.
It is a specialised vehicle that is fully kitted.
It has all the communication aids and it is going to aid the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and their work.
“NAMA has a critical function to perform at the airport because it grants access to the airside. This vehicle will be communicating with the instrument landing system and all critical aviation infrastructure.
“The airside and local flights are ongoing, and we are committed to delivering the international terminal and for international operations to resume after the construction of the terminal,” he said.
In his response, NAMA Manager, Gbenga Famosipe, represented by Olumide Odutayo, expressed gratitude to the governor for the vehicle donation, stating that it would enhance operational safety.
