NYCN Lagos Hails Sanwo-Olu Over Reintroduction Of Monthly Sanitation Exercise, Vows To Mobilize Structures For Compliance

Youths in Lagos have commended the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state.

Recall, the governor, on Saturday performed a symbolic flag off of the exercise at Mushin–Agege Motor Road where he announced the resumption of the monthly cleanup exercise after ten years suspension.

“I’m glad to share that the exercise will resume on Saturday, 25 April 2026, and will now hold on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m,” Sanwo-Olu announced.

Commenting on the development via a press statement, the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Adigun Ibrahim, on behalf of the teeming youths, described the monthly exercise as a welcomed development, adding that it is a right step in the direction of sustainably restoring environmental consciousness among residents of the state.

In a press statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Damilola Kushimo, Adigun noted that the reintroduction of the sanitation exercise demonstrates the commitment of the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu to building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.

He stressed that maintaining a hygienic environment is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all residents, particularly the youth population who constitute a significant part of the state’s workforce and community structure.

According to him, “The reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise is a laudable step towards restoring the culture of environmental responsibility that Lagos was once known for. As youths, we recognize that the future of our state depends on how well we protect and maintain our environment today. The National Youth Council of Nigeria in Lagos State will therefore mobilize our structures across all local governments and LCDAs to ensure massive participation and compliance with the exercise.”

The youth leader further assured that the council would mobilize youth organizations, community groups, and volunteers across the state to ensure massive compliance with the exercise. According to him, the NYCN will also engage in awareness campaigns and grassroots sensitization to encourage residents to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.

Adigun therefore urged Lagosians to cooperate with the state government by observing the sanitation period, cleaning their immediate environment, and supporting policies aimed at preserving the environment for present and future generations.
