The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, Engr. Adigun Ibrahim has been inducted into the board of Lagos State Sports Trust Fund.
The inauguration was done by the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday at the State House, Marina.
In a social media post announcing the development, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the board will be chaired by Enitan Oshodi, with Olaposi Agunbiade serving as Executive Secretary and CEO.
Alongside Adigun, other members of the board includes Olabode Agoro, Adeniyi Adedokun Adekoya, Gbolahan Onibuje, Jubril Gawat, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Olayemi Sarumi, Lekan Fatodu, Moshood Ajide, Chairmen of the LGAs and LCDAs as well as the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu.
Sanwo-Olu tasked the team to focus on developing sports activities from the grassroots up. He urged them to invest in school sports, support community competitions, and improve sporting facilities across the five divisions in the state.
“Lagos has never had a shortage of potential, but we all know that even the best athletes can only go so far without the right infrastructure or funding. The talent is here and it is our responsibility to give it the support it deserves.
“I have charged them to use their professional experience to attract private sector support. Together, we will build the strong institutions needed to sustain sports development in Lagos for years to come,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Reacting to his appointment, Adigun, in a swift post on his Facebook page, appreciated the state governor for what he described as distinct privilege.
Adigun who doubles as the Chairman of Forum of NYCN State chairmen pledged his commitment to justify the confidence reposed in his capacity to bring his to solidify Lagos exalted position among the comity of state when it comes to sports development.
“As the Chairman of the NYCN Lagos, I am fully committed to leveraging my office and network to promote grassroots sports engagement in line with our mandate of youth empowerment, social inclusion, and community development. Sports remain a powerful tool for leadership development, crime reduction, economic opportunity, and positive youth expression,” he said.
