Cornelius Ojelabi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, has extended warm greetings to Christians and Muslims observing Lent and Ramadan.
Mr Ojelabi, in a statement on Wednesday, described the season as a period of deep spiritual reflection, sacrifice and renewed commitment to service.
Mr Ojelabi said, “These sacred periods remind us of the importance of sacrifice, devotion, and service to humanity—values that unite us all, regardless of faith. To our Christian brothers and sisters, may your Lenten season deepen your connection to God and renew your spirit as you prepare to celebrate Easter.
“As the Bible reminds us in Colossians 3:23-24 – ‘Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.’
“To our Muslim brothers and sisters, may this Ramadan bring you closer to Allah (SWT), and may your fasting and prayers be accepted. As the Quran states in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183, “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”
He admonished faithful in both religions to use the “holy seasons” to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
“Together, we can continue to build a stronger and more inclusive community, guided by the principles of love, tolerance, and mutual respect,” Mr Ojelabi added.
He noted that both sacred periods emphasise values that unite Nigerians across religious divides.
