Revered clergyman and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said that Nigeria’s turnaround is not in the hands of youths but in the place of prayer and spiritual authority exercised by believers.

Kumuyi said this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he urged Christians not to lose hope despite the country’s challenges, stressing that God remains willing and able to intervene in the affairs of the nation and in the lives of individuals.

According to the cleric, national change can only come when the people of God take responsibility through prayer and declaration, rather than relying solely on human efforts. He emphasized that spiritual anointing has the power to break limitations and alter negative situations.

“We can change the situation in this country if we believe, we’re talking about anointing, anointing breaks the yoke. It’s not in the hand of the young people, or the decadents. It’s in our hands to pray and decree. We will see God manifesting,” Kumuyi said.

He further encouraged believers not to be discouraged by life’s difficulties, assuring them that God has not changed and remains faithful to fulfil His promises. Kumuyi said divine manifestation would follow faith and obedience, adding that no one who trusts in God would be disappointed.

The cleric also spoke on what he described as spiritual authority given to believers through Jesus Christ, referring to it as a key that empowers them to confront challenges in their personal lives, families and society at large. He noted that if families embraced and exercised this authority, the level of moral decline affecting society would significantly reduce.

“We have assurances from the Lord that all He has done before, He is still able and willing to do again. The real manifestation of the new and fresh anointing that brings every yoke in a red light will come to us. The Lord has not disappointed us, none will be disappointed and our expectations will be fulfilled,” he stated.

Kumuyi added that many believers overlook the power already placed in their hands, explaining that scripture teaches that spiritual authority allows actions on earth to align with what is established in heaven.

“The thing we overlook is that God has given us, through Jesus Christ, the key, the power. He says it in different ways in different places. Number one, he said, ‘I give unto you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, whatsoever you bind on earth is bound in heaven.’ Do you understand what he is saying? Whatsoever is bound in heaven, you’ll bind on earth. He puts a key in our hands. Bind it on earth, and heaven will conform, and Jesus said, ‘He who believes in me, the works I do, he will do,’” he said.

His comments have since stirred discussions, particularly around the role of faith, leadership and responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
