The National Assembly has given its nod to President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of emergency rule in Rivers State.

The Senate, after a closed session approved the proclamation explaining that it is in line with constitutional provision.

The Senate resolved that President Tinubu review or terminate the state of emergency at any given time not later than the 6 months.

Senate passed resolution to be provided authority to set up an adhoc committee comprising both chambers to oversight Rivers state.

Also, the red chamber resolved that a committee of eminent Nigerians be set up to reconcile parties in Rivers state within the period of emergency.

Earlier on Thursday, the House of Representatives also adopted the president’s proclamation.

The lower chamber’s adoption of Tinubu’s proclamation was made through a voice vote with 243 members in attendance.

The House recommended that a national committee should be set up to mitigate and restore peace back to Rivers State.

Secondly, the National Assembly should take over the activities of the state Assembly within six months.
