Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has offered N2,250,000 scholarship to the students of Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapede, Ogun State through the Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Support Programmers .

Established in memory of his late late Gbemiga Abiodun, the scholarship was given to ease financial burdens and improve access to quality education for students facing financial challenges.

The Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Support Programme has awarded more than N93 million to students across the state’s primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

The programme is an initiative of the Governor and his family established in memory of their son, Gbemiga, who passed away on October 7, 2017.

Abiodun instituted a Scholarship Award scheme for indigent students in the Remo Federal Constituency of the state in honour of his late son, Gbemiga, who died seven years ago.

During his lifetime, Gbemiga, popularly known as DJ Olu in the entertainment industry was the official DJ to David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

It extends support to students in public primary and secondary schools, technical colleges, and tertiary institutions, as well as provisions for special needs learners in Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu Local Government Areas.

Commenting on the programme, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, described it as a meaningful way to give back to society.

He noted that the initiative, which initially supported 600 students, has expanded to include even more beneficiaries.

A Creative Students category was introduced to honour Oluwagbemiga’s compassion and vision for a better world, as the Governor also pledged to extend the programme to more communities within the State.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu encouraged the scholarship recipients to stay focused on their academic pursuits and make the most of the opportunity provided by the scholarship.

The event was attended by prominent figures including the First Lady of the State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Oyedele; Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya; Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu; as well as traditional rulers, heads of educational institutions, special advisors, and other notable dignitaries.
