Despite promising to implement its new N77,000 monthly allowance, corps members in the country were taken aback on Wednesday as Federal Government fails to honour the promise by paying the old N33,000 instead.
Weeks ago, speculation were ubiquitous instilling assurance that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had raised the monthly stipend for corps members, leading to high expectations of a pay increase.
However, several corps members have taken to social media to share screenshots of their latest payments, which still reflect the previous ₦33,000 allowance.
Receipt of the ₦33,000 payments have flooded various social media platforms, sparking frustration and confusion among the youth corps members who were hopeful for the higher stipend amidst rising living costs.
As of the time of filing this report, NYSC is yet to officially address the situation, leaving many corps members seeking clarification regarding the status of their allowance.
