The Catholic Church has expressed support for the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pasor Enoch Adeboye for correcting himself on his claim on tithing.

The revered cleric clarified that salvation is not based on tithing or financial contributions emphasizing that salvation comes through holiness and living in peace with others.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, Director of Social Communications for the Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, praised Adeboye for acknowledging his mistake and said his apology was a impressive.

Reacting to this, Godonu noted that Adeboye’s earlier teaching did not align with Catholic doctrine.

In a statement, he said: “Pastor Adeboye’s repentance over his earlier claim that non-tithers cannot enter heaven is the right step. He has come to the realization of the truth, as stated in John 8:32, ‘You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”

Godonu further explained that the Catholic Church does not preach money as a condition for salvation but instead focuses on following God’s will and living in accordance with Christ’s teachings. He added, “It is heartening to see a prominent pastor like Adeboye acknowledging the truth. At this stage of his life, truth is the most important message he can share if he is serious about his journey to heaven.”

He concluded by congratulating Adeboye for his openness and for leading others towards a clearer understanding of faith.
