Sulaimon Jelili, suspended Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Council in Lagos State, has approached an Abuja Federal High Court over what he erroneously alleged to be ‘undue and illegal interference’ in the council’s activities.
Sulaimon was suspended on Monday by the state’s House of Assembly over sundry allegations including financial irregularities in the council’s books and processes.
According to the court summons obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Tuesday in Abuja, he is curiously asking the court to hold that the Assembly has no constitutional power to perform oversight functions over the council’s activities.
Dr. Abdul Mahmud, counsel to the aggrieved was reported by NAN to have said that the essential kernel of the case was purportedly to assert the autonomy and independence of local governments, pursuant to the recent decision of the Supreme Court.
