Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, Governor-elect for Sokoto State, has set the ball of his would-be predecessor’s scrutiny by inaugurating a Finance and Debt Verification Committee to probe the administration of the outgoing Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Aliyu Sokoto contested and won the governorship under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition party to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The committee is headed by Mohammed Idris Gobir, Deputy Governor-elect. His main assignment is to identify all loans secured by Tambuwal’s government since inception.
Furthermore, the committee is saddled with finding out if the loans collected were utilized for the purpose(s) they were meant for.
The committee would further identify the purpose of the loan and their volume as well as provide detailed information on all loans collected.
The 20-member committee was among the 18 sub-committees inaugurated by the Chairman of the APC Transition Committee, Ambassador Abubakar Sani, Makaman Sokoto on Wednesday.
Theliberationnews can further reveal that there were rumblings from some lawmakers in the state alleging that the outgoing government had secured N86 billion loans for the state.
The scrutiny move against the outgoing Tambuwal government might not be unconnected with the bitter feud between Incumbent Governor Tambuwal and Senator Aliyu Wamakko, leader of the APC in the state, who as the immediate past governor of the state paved the way for Tambuwal to become governor.
Tambuwal left the APC ahead of his second term bid and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). So, the move by the coming APC administration to probe Tambuwal is seen by keen watchers of events in the state as a continuation of the battle for supremacy in Sokoto state.
