Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sunday was declared winner of the Sokoto South Senatorial District election.

Tambuwal is candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the election in which he defeated the incumbent senator Danbaba Dambuwa, with a margin of 4,976.

INEC announced the results on Sunday at its office in Bodinga local government when Professor Abubakar Abdullahi Bagudo, returning officer, declared that Tambuwal had emerged winner with a total number of 100,860 votes.

Professor Bagudo also announced that All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate, Abdullahi Ibrahim Danbaba, scored in total 95,884 votes.

Tambuwal is serving out his constitutional 8 years of two terms as governor of Sokoto state next month. He picked the presidential form of the PDP before at the nick of time, he withdrew from the contest on the day of primary for Atiku Abubakar, a fellow contestant.

Having served out three terms of 12 years in the House of Representatives where he also served as Speaker, Tambuwal is returning to the National Assembly as a senator representing Sokoto South senatorial district.
