The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as irresponsible and infantile, allegation by Atiku Abubakar’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that the foremost presidential candidate in the country, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stockpiled new naira notes to buy votes in the coming election.

The ruling party refuted the claim in a press statement issued by Tinubu’s Media Office and signed by Mahmud Jega, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs on Monday.

It maintained that PDP’s allegation against Tinubu was a ploy to divert the public’s attention from its anti-people stance on the naira redesign policy regardless of its attendant hardship on hapless Nigerians.

The statement titled: “PDP Lied, Asiwaju Tinubu Has Not Stockpiled New Naira Notes,” read in part: “The allegation is simply ludicrous, spurious and a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the anti-people posturing of the PDP candidate, after he and Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi asked the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] not to extend the deadline for the use of old naira notes.

“They took the position despite the pains our compatriots are experiencing. They actively promoted the sanctity of the deadline in the calculated hope of reaping political windfall from the people’s suffering.

“We are not surprised that the PDP made a volte-face to conjure a completely unfounded allegation against Tinubu. Having realized that Atiku’s selfish, uncaring position has generated popular anger and resentment against him, it came up with this absurd claim that our candidate is mopping up new currency notes.”

APC emphasised that PDP’s allegation is a lie from the pit of hell noting that it is utterly false.

The party added that Tinubu’s stance on the policy was in solidarity with the masses as he has always been a voice of the voiceless and champion of the underprivileged.

In a similar vein, APC discredited similar allegation by UK-based Nigerians, Bulama Bukarta and Jafar Jafar that alleged that Tinubu has stockpiled billions of naira in every state for vote buying.

The ruling party said the duo are PDP agents engaging in the defamatory act because they feel they are far beyond Nigeria’s Defamatory Act by living in faraway UK.
